Glass Replacement

The windscreen of a motor vehicle forms a critical part of the vehicles safety restraint system, most automotive safety experts rank the windscreen as the third most important safety component, behind seatbelts and airbags. The windscreen provides much of the roof support on most cars and vans, it also provides virtually all the support the passenger side airbag needs to deploy correctly in the event of a collision.

Glass Assist import quality aftermarket auto glass manufactured by Xinyi Automotive Glass, who has established a 15% share of the global replacement market. Glass is also locally sourced from a number of suppliers providing access to OEM products.

Our team of experienced fitters are able to service all of our customer’s needs, including replacement of rear and body glass.

Glass repairs

Glass Repairs

Often damage occurs when road debris, such as a rock gets flicked up by a car in front of you. The damage caused can take a variety of forms, most commonly, Bull's Eye, Combination, Half Moon, Star Break, Cloverleaf or cracks. Now days windscreens are laminated (Two pieces of glass separated by polyvinyl butyrate (PVB) which bonds the pieces together), this prevents the windscreen from shattering and makes repairing the windscreen possible.

Glass Assist technicians are using the Esprit Professional Repair System which features the latest technology in repair bridges. The resin has the identical refractive index to auto glass and is designed to be very thin, able to penetrate the tightest legs of a star break, yet remain flexible and strong.

The strength of the repair will not allow the break to crack out.

Temporary Glass

RACV Auto Glass offer members in the metropolitan area a 24 hours, 7 days each week ‘secure your car’ service.

Most mobile phone, handbag and other property thefts occur through a broken window. The problem is further exacerbated as there are literally thousands of side and rear glass stock keeping units (SKUs). Further, many of these thefts occur after hours.

Currently, the industry has no assistance in place for these customers. Most are left with an unsecured vehicle until such time as the correct glass is located, which may be days, leaving the vehicle exposed to the elements, and further theft.

This system involves the fitment of a clear PETG plexiglass panel to the affected area. The vehicle is then as secure as a convertible car. RACV Autoglass can then liaise with the member to facilitate the replacement of the correct glass component.

PETG

Materials

PETG

PETG, also known as glycolised polyester is a film that is used in the production of plastic cards. It is similar to PET, the substance used to make soft drink bottles.

PETG films are amorphous, meaning the polymer molecules are not aligned or ordered within the material. It is produced in a roll calendering process similar to that used to make standard PVC. As a result, PETG has many features similar to PVC with similar temperature resistance and durability. InEurope, PETG has found a market where customers are looking to produce "environmentally" friendly cards. In addition to its use in cards, this polymer is used in applications where thermoformability is required.

This film is cut-to-size and applied to the vehicle using high-quality tape, which will not damage paintwork when removed.

Tape

A specialty cloth tape is used which has been tested and found not to damage the finish of the vehicle. The tape construction allows for temporary applications weather indoors or outdoors, it is removable with little of no adhesive residue after application and is also UV & water resistant. It has an adhesion rating of 5N/25mm and a tensile strength of 100N/25mm.
